Why Wildfire Resource Center?
There was no central location to learn what mitigation efforts are occurring in La Plata County, to find out about grant funding, or identify your Fire Protection District and learn mitigation techniques. To this end, the Wildfire Resource Center was conceived and great effort put into organizing the material on these pages so that you can access information to prepare your home and community and so we, as a community, are prepared to live with wildfires. It is important to acknowledge that wildfire was a frequent occurrence on our landscape, creating a fire dependent landscape. Whether in pine, juniper or grasslands, wildfire is our ecosystem's tool to clean debris and unhealthy growth and promote new, flourishing vegetation. Allowing fires to occur supports forest health, and healthy watersheds. It is up to us to become a fire adapted community. About Us
