Commissioner Julie Westendorff (Democrat)
As a Commissioner, Julie serves on the Colorado Human Services Board and the Colorado Extension Advisory Council. She also fills La Plata County’s seat with the Colorado Commission on Indian Affairs. She is the County Commissioners’ liaison to the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney, and Coroner. Locally she is the Commissioner representative on the San Juan Basin Area Agency on Aging.
Julie has served on various boards and commissions in La Plata County, including the local Community Corrections Screening Committee, Women’s Resource Center, Humane Society, and Women’s Bar Association.
Julie holds office hours, open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis, at the Pine River Library in Bayfield, typically on the third Thursday of each month, 10 a.m. – noon. And at the Ignacio Community Library in even-numbered months, on the second Thursday. Due to scheduling conflicts, times sometimes change, so it is best to confirm.
La Plata County Commissioners are elected at-large. Therefore, all county residents can vote in Commissioner elections. Julie comes from District 3 which is the eastern and southern areas of La Plata County, including the Bayfield, Ignacio, and Vallecito areas. Commissioner terms are four years. La Plata County Commissioners are term-limited and Julie’s final term will conclude in January 2021.
