District Attorney's Office
The District Attorney is elected by voters in three Colorado counties: Archuleta, La Plata and San Juan. These three counties comprise the Sixth Judicial District of Colorado.
The District Attorney's Office prosecutes criminal cases within the District and works closely with law enforcement agencies in all three counties.
In 1997, the Domestic Violence Unit and Fast Trak program were established to prosecute and expedite cases involving domestic violence. In 2000, in collaboration with the courts and probation, the District Attorney created the Sixth Judicial District Drug Court. The District Attorney also participated in the creation of a Day Reporting program for DUI offenders.
There are eight lawyers and a total staff of 21 full time employees in the DA's office. One full-time investigator has an office in Pagosa Springs, Archuleta County. The District Attorney's office also maintains a active Victim/Witness Unit, which provides valuable assistance and advocacy to victims of crime. For additional information, please call or e-mail.
