Commissioner Clyde Church (Democrat)

CCommissioner Churchlyde Church was born in Minneapolis and grew up in Phoenix from the age of seven.  He paid his way through Phoenix College and Arizona State University working during summers at Motorola Semiconductor and local livestock auctions and stables.  He graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in chemistry and secondary education.  He continued to work at Motorola Semiconductor as an Engineer/Manager, doing materials research and development in Scottsdale, AZ.  He also was a small business owner in Mesa, AZ, owning and operating a wholesale & retail greenhouse, The Greenhouse.  He was also a group director at Sperry Univac Semiconductor in Minneapolis, MN and was the Vice-President and Chief Engineer of Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa.  Clyde  also was a Field Engineer and Chair of Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) Advisory Committee at Iowa State University, College of Engineering

Clyde and his wife Paulette moved to La Plata County in 1999 and he continued as the Engineering Manager (as a minority owner), Metalcraft.

Clyde has been very active serving on various boards and commissions, serving as the Board Chair on the Southwest Colorado Rural Workforce Board, the Durango Planning Commission, the pre-disaster mitigation planner for Dolores County, Falls Creek Ranch Homeowners Association: Board of Directors, and Firewise Chainsaw Crew Chief and Post-Wildfire Recovery Team Co-Chair.  He is passionate about his service to Rotary Club of Durango, serving as a Board Member and President, as well as the Rotary District 5470 Governor, representing southern 2/3 of Colorado

La Plata County Commissioners are elected at-large.  Therefore, all county residents can vote in commissioner elections.  Clyde comes from District 1 which is the western areas of La Plata County, including Redmesa, Kline, Marvel and Hesperus, southern La Plata County including Bondad, and northern La Plata County including Hermosa and Purgatory.  Commissioner terms are four years.  La Plata County Commissioners are term-limited to two terms.  Clyde's was elected to a second term in November 2022.
