Participate in County Government by Serving on a Board or Commission!

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified individuals to serve on many county boards and commissions, including these five Boards:

Members of the Board of Review hear and consider appeals of any person aggrieved by his inability to obtain a building permit. Members must be residents of La Plata County, be at least 18 years of age, and be experienced in building construction.

Members of the Extension Advisory Committee act in an advisory capacity to the Board with respect to Colorado Cooperative Extension Service programs and issues. Applicants should be interested in agriculture, horticulture, consumer and family education and 4-H and youth development.

Members of the Historic Preservation Review Commission are dedicated to the preservation of the County’s cultural, historic and/or architectural history, and review requests for designation of historic landmarks and historic districts.

Members of the Undesirable Plant and Rodent Advisory Commission advise the Board of County Commissioners on undesirable plant and rodent control programs in the county and develop and review the recommended management plan for designated noxious weeds and criteria for noxious weeds within La Plata County. 

Members of the Wildfire Advisory Board (WAB) make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners concerning wildfire planning matters and decisions. The WAB also may make formal recommendations to the Board about the adoption of ordinances based upon the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and reviews specific matters for consideration by the Board or the Community Development Department.
