County restricts public building access during COVID-19 outbreak

Public access has been restricted to all La Plata County buildings and departments with online and telephone service where possible, and appointment-only visits in limited circumstances.  This change to how La Plata County delivers services is intended to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community by practicing social distancing.

Draft Land Use Code Version 2 released for public review, input

La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to present Version 2 of the Draft Land Use Code for community review and input. Version 2 of the draft code, which is available at https://bit.ly/LPC_LUC, was written by La Plata County staff and incorporates input received from the community, Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners on Version 1, which was released May 11 for public review and input. Please provide comments by Aug. 14 for consideration in Version 3 of the Draft Land Use Code.

COVID-19 Information

Gov. Jared Polis has modified the mandatory Stay at Home order to "Safer at Home" order, amended on May 8.  La Plata County is currently under a "Safer La Plata" order put in place by San Juan Basin Public Health District.

Clerk's Office warns voters about USPS mailer containing misleading information

The La Plata County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has been notified that the United States Postal Service (USPS) sent out a national pre-election mailer that contains incorrect election information for Colorado. The mailer incorrectly asks that voters request a mail ballot 15 days before the election and return their ballots by mail at least seven days before the election.  Ballots will be mailed automatically to every eligible registered voter on October 9. Citizens do not need to make a request to our office.

Bayfield Convenience Center closes temporarily for maintenance/cleanup

The Bayfield Convenience Center will be closed until Monday, October 12 to allow for site maintenance and cleanup. The facility, located at 4496 County Road 223, will not accept waste of any kind during the closure.
