Free mulch day in Bayfield Oct. 13

La Plata County will offer free wood mulch, loaded into vehicles and trailers from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the Bayfield Convenience Center, 4496 County Road 223 in Bayfield.

Due to Covid-19, please remain in your vehicle at all times and in park while loading. The equipment operator can maneuver around your vehicle when you stop. If you wish to cover your mulch load, there will be space to pull forward and away from other cars at the loading area.

The Bayfield Convenience Center accepts dry, brown yard waste such as tree trimmings, slash, and tree trunks. These materials are periodically mulched and offered to residents free of charge.  Traditionally, residents are required to load the mulch into their vehicles. However, on Wednesday, La Plata County staff will be on site with heavy equipment to load vehicles and trailers with wood mulch. The transfer station will be closed and not accepting waste during the free mulch-loading.

La Plata County encourages residents to take advantage of this offer to load free wood mulch. For more information or to share ideas and suggestions, please contact La Plata County staff, Leslie Jakoby at (970) 382-6376.
