Commissioners, District Attorney sworn in; Chair, vice chair appointed

Newly elected La Plata County Commissioners Marsha Porter-Norton and Matt Salka were sworn into office Tuesday by Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Will Herringer. District Attorney Christian Champagne was sworn into his second term, and deputy district attorneys Alexandra Herlong, David Ottman, Reid Stewart, Sean Murray, Vance Davis, Miles “Mac” Dudley, Brad Neagos and Alexander Lowe took their oaths of office.

Porter-Norton and Salka replace outgoing Commissioners Julie Westendorff and Gwen Lachelt, who were term-limited. Following the swearing in, the Board of County Commissioners elected Porter-Norton as chair of the board for 2021. Salka was named vice chair. Commissioner Clyde Church was chair of the board for 2020. Chair of the board is a one-year rotating position.
