La Plata County to test CodeRED; residents encouraged to sign up

The La Plata County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will conduct a test and purge of the CodeRED emergency notification system which is licensed by the county to help disseminate important and/or critical information directly to residents. All registered CodeRED participants will receive a notification and message from OEM between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The OEM updates the CodeRED database every year and Saturday’s test “All Call” is intended to cull inactive numbers and improve the overall efficiency of the CodeRED system. Those who have elected to receive voice call alerts will hear a special script. Any failed contacts will be purged from the system.

We encourage all La Plata County residents and businesses to go the www.co.laplata.co.us/emergency , click on the CodeRED logo and enter their contact information, including additional phone numbers, and text and email addresses, to ensure all of the data in our system is accurate and current.

If you know of anyone who did not receive this call who lives in La Plata County, please encourage them to visit the La Plata County website and enter their information; or, residents may text DURANGOLAPLATACOUNTYCODERED to 99411 from a mobile phone and enter all contact information.

If you do not have internet access, please contact a friend or family member to help add your contact information to the emergency database. You can also call the Office of Emergency Management directly at (970) 382-7552 for assistance.
