Press Release for Board of County Commissioners Week of Sept. 19 - 23

MONDAY, September 19
8:00 a.m. – Special Executive Session
Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute § 24-6-402 (4), upon the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the quorum present, the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will hold an executive session to discuss the following matters:
  1. For purposes of the Board receiving legal advice on specific legal questions pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(b). Purpose: Providing legal advice on steps to be taken to meet legal requirements in closing Purple Cliffs as a campsite used by the unhoused.
  2. Determining positions relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations; developing strategy for negotiations; and instructing negotiators pursuant to Colo. Rev. Stat. § 24-6-402(4)(e). Purpose: The County’s position regarding city and county efforts to provide alternative locations for the unhoused, including, but not limited to: managed camps, automobile camping/overnight parking, disbursed camping, and alternatives to camping.
10:00 a.m. – Joint City/County Meeting

The Durango City Council is hosting a meeting with the Board and staff to discuss the closing of Purple Cliffs. This meeting will be held in the county board room at 1101 E. 2nd Avenue. An agenda of this meeting will be posted at

The commissioners have been invited to attend an Economic Summit with the Economic Development Alliance at the Sky Ute Casino, 14324 Highway 172 North in Ignacio.

THURSDAY, September 22

3:00 p.m. – Commissioner Church’s Community Office Hours in Hesperus

Commissioner Clyde Church will hold in-person office hours in Hesperus from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for members of the public to discuss county issues of interest or concern. Commissioner Church’s office hours will be held at Red Mesa General Store, 6740 County Road 140 in Hesperus.

6:00 p.m. – Listening Session – Chapter 90

The Board and Planning Commission are holding a listening session to hear comments from the public on the draft rewrite of the Oil and Gas regulations (Chapter 90) in the Land Use Code.

The commissioners have been invited to attend a virtual Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI) meeting to discuss proposed legislative issues and proposed edits to policy statement.
