Criminal Investigations

The Mission of the La Plata County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit is:

To provide both reactive and proactive investigative functions for the  discovery, control and prosecution of criminal cases involving all manner of criminal acts.

The Criminal Investigations Unit is comprised of a Lieutenant and several investigators. They are responsible for the investigation of crimes against persons and property. They carry a caseload and manage criminal cases received from both the Patrol Division and those assigned by the Investigations Lieutenant. They respond to calls for assistance by patrol, detentions, and the administration for various investigative needs involving anything from criminal matters to internal matters. They write arrest and search warrants, and prepare criminal cases for prosecution. They are available to assist other fire and law enforcement agencies with the investigation of criminal activity.

Special Investigations

The Mission of the Special Investigations Unit is:

To provide investigation for the discovery, control and prosecution of criminal cases and to pro-actively suppress offenses related to vice, narcotics, and organized crime.

The Special Investigations Unit is made up of a Lieutenant, Investigators, and an Office Manager and is attached to the Southwest Drug Task Force.
