Youth Substance Use Prevention

La Plata County Public Health coordinates a community-led coalition dedicated to supporting young people ages 12 to 24 in La Plata County. The Recognizing Opportunities Around Resilience (ROAR) coalition uses a proven five-phase change process that promotes positive youth development, improves outcomes and reduces problem behaviors among youth. This process applies tested and effective strategies that have been shown to increase resiliency and a sense of connectedness within families and local communities. With the support of a dedicated ROAR coordinator, this process empowers community members to take ownership for the long-term health, safety and well-being of youth.
