Issues Marriage licenses, records documents, conducts elections, registers voters, and issues license plates.

Finance

The Finance department provides a variety of administrative and technical support to all offices and departments of County government.  Provides fiscal oversight, prepares budget, acquires goods and services, and processes accounts payable and payroll.

General Services

Responsible for maintenance of County facilities and grounds, administration of County's fleet, operation of the La Plata County Fairgrounds, and administration of County weed program. 970-382-6326

Human Resources

Provides all personnel and risk management services. 970-382-6361

Human Services

Human Services offers a wide-range of public assistance to children, elderly, disabled, and low-income residents and is responsible for administering a variety of programs, many of which are mandated and regulated by state and federal law. 970-382-6150

Information Technology

The purpose of the Information Technology Department is to provide hardware, software, data and web-based services to residents, agencies, businesses, and La Plata County Staff so they can make informed decisions and conduct business in an efficient manner.

Office of Emergency Management

Plans and prepares for emergency situations and natural disasters and manages emergency operations. 970-382-6274

Planning

The Planning Department is responsible for implementing the community’s vision for growth as adopted by the Board of County Commissioners. We do this by:
  • Advising decision-makers regarding land use and growth management opportunities in our community.
  • Providing information to the public and explaining land use possibilities in the County.
  • Reviewing land and natural resource development requests per the County code and policies.

Public Trustee Holds deeds of trust to secure indebtedness.  County Treasurer serves as Public Trustee.

Designs, inspects, surveys and maintains County roads and administers contracts for Road and Bridge Construction Projects.  Also monitors closed county landfills. 970-382-6363
Sheriff Provides public safety and criminal investigation services for La Plata County and operates County jail. 970-385-2900
Surveyor Indexes and files all surveyor plats. Represents the county in boundary disputes.

Sustainability Champions the County's organizational sustainability efforts and serves as a liaison to the community and sustainability issues. 970-382-6212
Treasurer Collect taxes and disburse them to the appropriate taxing districts and maintains and invests the County's financial resources. Also serves as the Public Trustee.
