La Plata County Seeking Property Valuation Arbitrator

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking independent arbiters to arbitrate property valuation disputes in the county in accordance with C.R.S. § 39-8-108.5. Applicants must be experienced in the area of property taxation; a registered, licensed or certified appraiser; and must satisfy one of the following criteria: an attorney licensed to practice in Colorado, an appraiser with a membership in the Institute of Real Estate Appraisers or its equivalent, a former county assessor, a retired judge, or a licensed real estate broker. Applicants should not hold another local government office and are disqualified if they have represented taxpayers in property tax protests, appeals and abatements in La Plata County for this tax year. Compensation is $150 per case for residential property cases. For cases concerning any taxable property other than residential real property, the arbiter’s fees and expenses shall be an amount agreed upon by the taxpayer and the County Board of Equalization. .
