Important Year-End Property Tax Payment Notice
On September 28, 2018 all delinquent property tax liens eligible for the annual tax lien sale on November 1st, 2018, were submitted to the Herald for publication, per Colorado State Statutes.  At this time, all property tax payments must be paid to the La Plata County Treasurer with either cash or certified funds, hence online payments cannot be accepted at this time.

Once the 2018 tax roll becomes available in January, 2019, online payments will again be accepted.

Please call the La Plata County Treasurer's Office for property tax payment information and questions regarding the laws that govern delinquent property taxes.

2018 Tax Lien Sale for 2017 Delinquent Taxes

Tax Lien sales are governed by the following Colorado State Statutes:

    Important Tax Lien Sale Dates


  • June 30, 2018:  Notices mailed to delinquent property owners

    September 19, 2018: Delinquent personal property and mobile homes publishes(d) in Durango Herald. Fees and interest become part of the lien.

    October 3, October 10th and October 17th, 2018: Delinquent real property and mobile homes publishes(d) in Durango Herald. Fees and interest become part of the lien.


    November 1, 2018. 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Mountain Time: On-line Tax Lien Sale. Go to the following website for instructions on how to participate.  Auction site will be open for researching tax liens on October 1st.


    Computer workstations are available at the Durango Public Library, 1900 E. 3rd Avenue, and at the La Plata County Treasurer’s Office, 1160 Main Ave.
