Yard Waste

La Plata County offers residents a yard waste collection site located at the Bayfield Convenience Center at 4496 CR 223 that provides local residents a free option for the disposal of their dry, brown yard waste such as tree trimmings, slash, and tree trunks up to 8 inches in diameter.  

Periodically, the accumulated yard waste is mulched and made available to County residents, free of charge.  Traditionally, residents are required to load their own vehicles with mulch; however, a few times each year, La Plata County has an operator and piece of heavy equipment on site to load vehicles and trailers with wood mulch!  Please check back to this page as the next free loading day will be posted here.

Consider combining trips by bringing your recyclables and dry, brown yard waste to drop off when you get your mulch.

La Plata County encourages local residents to take advantage of the free yard waste program, free loading of wood mulch and the recycling station as three small ways that each of us can help to reduce, reuse and recycle.
