Wallace "Wally" White - Biography
Wallace "Wally" White is a 2nd term La Plata County Commissioner, elected in 2004. Originally from Boulder, CO, he has lived in La Plata County since 1979. Wally graduated from CSU in 1965 with a BA in finance. He has a graduate degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management plus additional graduate work in economics and international studies.
Commissioner White serves on the Land Use and Natural Resources Steering Committee with Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI) as well as the Public Lands Steering Committee. He is also Vice President of the Western District of CCI which is comprised of sixteen counties on the Western Slope. He serves on the County Weed Control Committee, the Durango Library Board, Mountain Studies Institute Board of Directors, and the Durango Independent Film Festival Board. State & Federal appointments include the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission, the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Land Management Southwest Resource Advisory Council.
In private life, Wally has been raising llamas since 1980 and was a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Llama & Alpaca Assoc.. He has also worked as a full time farrier and alpaca ranch manager. Prior to 1979, Wally operated a small wholesale import business specializing in rugs and antiques from Central Asia.
