Julie Holligan Westendorff was elected La Plata Commissioner from District 3 in November, 2012. Prior to being a Commissioner, Julie has been the Bayfield Municipal Judge, Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Prosecutor, and a small business owner, as a real estate broker and attorney.
As a Commissioner, Julie is on the Colorado Child Protection Ombudsman Advisory Council and fills La Plata County’s seat with the Colorado Commission on Indian Affairs. She represents the County at Colorado Counties, Inc., on the General Government and Human Services Steering Committees and the Legislative Committee. She is the County Commissioners’ liaison to the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney, Coroner, and Fair Board.
Julie has served on various boards and commissions in La Plata County, including the local Community Corrections Screening Committee, Women’s Resource Center, Humane Society, and Women’s Bar Association.
La Plata County Commissioners are elected at-large. Therefore, all county residents can vote in Commissioner elections. Julie comes from District 3 which is the eastern and southern areas of La Plata County, including the Bayfield, Ignacio, and Vallecito areas. Commissioner terms are four years.
