Commissioners to hold community meeting on gas pipeline safety
Posted on 06/01/2017

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will hold a community meeting from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 in the Board Room of the County Administration Building, 1101 E. 2nd Ave. to discuss natural gas pipeline safety and the related regulatory roles of state and local entities.

Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission staff will give a presentation describing the factors that led to the April incident in Firestone when an abandoned gas line triggered a home explosion. The COGCC will also discuss what the agency has done in response to prevent future incidents and protect public safety.

COGCC and La Plata County staff will also explain the larger, multi-jurisdictional regulatory context regarding natural gas pipelines and answer any questions from the community regarding pipeline-related public safety.
