Courthouse Remodel

As part of La Plata County’s facility planning efforts, the remodel of first floor of the La Plata County Courthouse at 1060 E 2nd Avenue was initiated on February 28, 2016.  This remodel will assist La Plata County in addressing its statutorily mandated responsibilities to the Sixth Judicial District and will also provide courtroom and office space for the U.S. District Court, U.S. Probation and U.S. Marshal’s Office.

The first floor demolition activity has been completed, and prepatory work for the plumbing, electrical, mechanical and sprinkler systems is currently underway.  Construction of the new 879-square foot secure entryway addition is scheduled to begin mid-April and requires landscape alterations, including the removal of a large conifer tree and the relocation of a deciduous tree. Wood from the conifer will be donated to the Durango Daybreak Rotary Club for its firewood project for those in need.

The tree removal is scheduled for Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10 to avoid disruption of vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 10th Street.  Both roads will remain open during this time.
